Elizabethan Context: Romeo and Juliet

Service Description

This class helps students understand the context for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. We will focus upon the significance of Shakespeare’s life, the Elizabethan times, the importance of different settings, the Globe theatre and different Elizabethan audiences. Session 1 - This class covers: Shakespeare’s biography; Queen Elizabeth I; the Elizabethan court, class differences, gender codes, marriage and courtly love, religious tensions, attitudes towards fate and the importance of the tragic genre. Students will receive the context presentation to print for their own revision.
