Service Description

This short course builds students’ understanding of comparative writing for the AQA English Language Paper 2 exam: specifically, questions 2 and 4. The sessions provide guidance on generating and organising ideas from five exam style comparative questions. Students will have the opportunity to watch comparative plan demonstrations for question 4 and writing examples from Hollyann before enhancing their own comparative writing approaches. Session 1 Using two short extracts, the first session will involve a discussion of summarising differences, effective annotation and planning techniques, before seeing a plan produced by Hollyann. Then, students will watch a least one example of a comparative paragraph, written in real time. Sessions 2 This session following session will cover a new theme (including two fresh extracts for comparison) and will give students the opportunity to practice their comparative plan approaches and writing techniques, focusing on depth of analysis, writing style, and timings. Session 3 The following session will cover a new theme (including two fresh extracts for comparison) and will give students the opportunity to practice their comparative plan approaches and writing techniques, focusing on depth of analysis, writing style, and timings. Session 4 This final session gives students the opportunity to produce their own timed response to another unseen set of sample extracts. Students will plan individually and then write their responses under timed conditions. Constructive feedback on the work produced will be given.
